Viscosity Overview

Viscosity is a flow measurement parameter of any fluids, such as liquids, semi-solids, gases and even solids. Viscosity measurements are made to determine product quality and efficiency and are often the quickest, most accurate and reliable way to analyse some of the most important factors affecting product performance.

Controling viscosity allows control of colour and consistency of inks, resins and other liquids - and therefore is vital in maintaining product quality.

Rheological relationships indicate how fluids behave and how to force them to behave, as required. Therefore, the selection of the right viscometer or viscosity measuring instrument, to meet the needs of any application, is essential.

There are many different instruments using various techniques for measuring viscosity, each suitable to specific circumstances and materials, varying from the simple to the complex; from counting the seconds for a liquid to drain off a stick to very sophisticated automatic recording and controlling equipment.
